As I mentioned in this article, Sam likes the acrylic pen blanks. He’s wanted to turn these for a while, so we did a little reorganizing in the shop, and made our turning area a little bigger.
We brought the Rikon lathe down from the basement studio, and set it up next to the Jet lathe. We set up the counter next to his lathe with all of the pen turning equipment and supplies.
We set up a wet sanding station on the counter, as we only wet sand the acrylics.
The first one he turned is an antique brass Bolt Action pen from Penn State Industries. He used a red and black swirl acrylic blank for this one.
Sam has a good eye for matching colors with pen blanks. I think this one looks really good.
The next one was a gun metal kit, with a camouflage acrylic blank. This one looks really good too. I liked it so much, I turned one for myself.
Thanks for looking!
I too fell for this craft.
Each pen has its own story.
All the best
