Chom Chom Roller Pet Hair Remover review

This review is not sponsored, we are not getting paid, they don’t even know we did it. It has nothing to do with woodworking, gardening, art, sewing, and I had promised myself I was going to cut back on review posts. Yet here we are. I felt compelled to write this because for years I have searched for something that would be simple and effective in my battle between woman and beast. I wish I could find the video that inspired me to buy this because I would link it here. Laura did a quick little video of her cleaning an outdoor chair that her cat, Russel, likes to sit on. You can find her and her cat here at Garden Answer. I was in awe as she quickly removed a thick layer of cat hair from the outdoor cushion. I trusted what she was saying more than I trust a lot of reviews, it was sincere, it was honest and I almost fell running to my computer to buy one.

I established a “no more pets” rule about 7 years ago.  Which meant that we shared our home with four cats, one of which is a long haired Norwegian Forest cat, one short haired large breed dog and a husky.  We are currently down to two cats and one husky but the others have left their mark on our hearts, curtains, furniture, bedding, you get the idea.  (Non of them passed away they just moved out and have their own homes now.)

In the years of battling hair I have tried vacuums, brushes, lint rollers, tape wrapped around my hand, combing the animals, some weird little roller thing that kind of works?  None of it really worked.  Even vacuuming could not get the hair out of the fabric.  The husky was my last straw.  Everything in the house started to look like we had made the bold and daring design choice of covering everything with mohair.  I started keeping the bed covered with something easier to wash, the husky simply pulls that aside.  I took down curtains.  I put all the throw pillows and couches in covers that could be pulled off and washed.  Yet even the washing machine isn’t a match for animal hair.  This stuff is so sticky that I think 3M should research it.  I was considering tossing a full set of lined drapes in the trash and then I saw Laura’s video.

I bought mine from Amazon but other sites like Chewy sell them.  I got the larger size but I could see where having both sizes could offer an advantage.  You can find them here on Amazon.

Chom Chom Pet Hair Roller

The sort of bad:

  • They work best on fabric that is flat and tight.  On bedding, because it moves and doesn’t stay taut you have to try and hold a section tight, finish that section then move to another.  I do have to go over things multiple times from multiple directions and because everything is loose and soft it doesn’t really get all of it.  So much better but not perfect.
  • I had the same issue with the drapes: you have to figure out how to hold them so that you can run the roller back and forth with vigor.
  • Same issue with the couch cover.
  • Sometimes the roller will get coated with hair and if you can’t do that vigorous back and forth it doesn’t clear and it will stop working.  The hair can be tough to pull off the rollers.

The good:

  • It does work even on soft surfaces that move.  You just have too figure out how to hold things.
  • If you can’t do the back and forth because of the surface you are working on you can go in just one direction and it will remove hair.
  • When a roller got covered in hair and it stopped wanting to pick up I could manually switch to the other roller and keep going.  When both rollers were covered I emptied the whole thing and pulled the hair off the rollers by hand.
  • Easy to open and clean out.
  • No bags to buy, no special tools needed, no attachments, no sticky tapes or disposables.
  • No noise.
  • It’s lightweight.
  • It’s not that expensive.

I haven’t tried this in the car yet but that is definitely going to be the next place I try.  Today those curtains which have been draped over a chair in the kitchen taunting me met their match.  I honestly was ready to put them in the garbage because nothing was working to get the hair out.  They are clean and can now go in the washing machine.

I’m also going to be ordering one of these for each of my sons who have pets.
