Greetings and Hello, welcome to this week with Wolf Studios.
I’ve recently gotten another pen cranked out (After needing a second attempt at it) for a friend who requested a couple pens.
This one used a very unique blank and I have to say when I first saw how this one turned out (forgive the pun) I was just really in awe because the gold and blue/bronze colors really complemented each other and it is just gorgeous.
editors notes:
You can find great gifts everywhere. Gifts that when you see them you know instantly that a certain person will love them. They speak to you about that person.
However, when you have something created specifically for you by a person who gets you that’s when a gift becomes a moment. Recently Sam was asked by a friend to create a pen for them. He didn’t just turn a pen, he turned a piece that he picked specifically for his friend. Each piece selected for a reason for this person. He even live streamed the turning so his friend could watch the entire process. That is what you can get when you do business with a local business.
The pen blank chosen originally was called “Dragon Blood” and during the turning a skip of gouges happened right in the middle of the blank. They could not be turned out and they could not be filled and finished. A new blank was purchased from Pen State and I have to say I like this one better. I love the copper veins running through it as well as the variations of blue from a deep almost midnight black to the pale hits randomly appearing throughout. It gave it a warmth that paired well with the deep gold tones set off by black bands chosen as the hardware for this pen.
The pen is an almost perfect match for the dragon mask inspiration. What doesn’t show up as well as I had hoped for in this picture are the tendrils of smoke curls weaving emanating from the dragon. While they don’t show in the picture the office has smelled great for over a week now! That incense is some kind of wonderful.
