Ooops! I saw a Jonsered CS 2240 on Ebay. Ever since my 24 year old CS 2050 hasn’t been running well, I’ve wanted another mid size chainsaw. This 2240 showed up on one of my searches. There were no bids, and only about 8 hours left, so I bid $100. And won. Ooops. I mean, I did buy a DeWalt 20V chainsaw last year, which I will be reviewing shortly. So, I didn’t REALLY need another one. But can you ever have too many chainsaws? I mean, really?
I’ve used Jonsered chainsaws almost exclusively for the past 40 years. My Uncle Larry was a logger, and he used them. My dad had a McCulloch that I swear he spent more time pulling the cord on that thing than he did running it. OK, that’s a gross exaggeration. But the thing was very hard to start at times. Larry talked him into buying a Jonsered, so he bit the bullet and bought a 49SP. That was a great saw. We would cut 16 cords of firewood a year with it. We took it hunting for any cutting we might need to do. And then there was just the maintenance of living with a lot of trees in the yard.
Fast forward a decade or so. We owned our first house and lived near Marisa’s folks. There was a need for a good chainsaw. So when I bought my first saw, you can bet that it was a Jonsered. A CS 2050, seen below. I’ve had this saw for 24 years, and this was the saw I first milled with.
Here’s the new 2240 on my chainsaw bench. Its big brothers can be seen below, along with little brother DeWalt. I’ll be reviewing that saw soon.
The bigger saw is a 2166 with a 24″ bar. This saw as the power to cut just about anything on our land.
I’ll be reviewing the 2240 soon.
